“Check out this link and apply”, that was what my friend told me when he sent me the link to apply at TIIDELab, I was reluctant at first, because I was dealing with a series of rejections from previous applications, but I'm glad I did, and as at present it is one of the best decisions I've made.

What is TIIDELab you ask? TIIDELab is a technology fellowship and a software development training program that aims at equipping young individuals with high quality knowledge of software development, alongside with problem solving , team building, team management, leadership skills, and finally, how to tackle real life challenges

Its been a whole month in Tiidelab, and I'm just going to expose you to a little bit of my experience here.

To get admitted, you have to go through three stages of admission, the first stage is a test with 70% as the cut off mark this is just to test your general knowledge and a little bit of HTML and CSS. After passing this stage, you go to the next stage, here you do a mini project, or a web page with HTML and CSS and a video pitch of why you think you should be a part of TIIDELab. Then you move on to the last stage, which is the interview stage, this is in order to test your ability to express yourself and communicate properly.

The first month was filled with activities ranging from physical meet ups, where we perform tasks to show agility, problem solving skills, problem analysis, decision making, and team building. We also perform Head of House task to win the role of the Head of House (HOH). The HOH is tasked with the responsibility of superintending the activities of the fellows for the week, and this helps to build leadership skill. I have been HOH for a week, and I was happy to serve.

The first class we had in TIIDELab was about Version control and Git, we learnt how to use Git, local and remote repo, how to create a new branch, how to commit and push and how to collaborate with other developers. We also learnt how to fully optimize the various social media to show our skills and put ourselves out there. Finally we were split into teams, and I am fortunate enough to end up in a team of amazing and like minded individuals

Then there came Data Structures and Algorithm, we were taught the time and space complexity, types of data structures, the Big O notation and many more. Then we moved on to learn advanced HTML and CSS, where we were given different tasks that led to the completion of our portfolio. kindly check out mine here- https://omotolani-portfolio.netlify.app/.

Next thing we learnt is the Software requirement document (SRS), and the Functional Requirement Document (FRD), where you perform requirement gathering, identify stakeholders, list the functional and non-functional requirements and so on for a given project. My team was given a task to create an SRS document for a Hospital Management System, and honestly it has been brain racking and thought provoking.

All in all, my experience in TIIDELab has been interesting, fun, yet exceptionally educative, and I am profoundly grateful for this opportunity .Since you've read this far, kindly follow me on my various social media accounts to continue this journey towards self reliance with me.
