My TiideLab Experience 3.0

Another month has passed at TIIDELAB, in my journey towards being a software developer. The last few months has been filled with experience building activities. And its time to share my experience as usual. Kindly check out my previous article here

Data Structure and Algorithm has been the order of the day, from learning about Hash table and its syntax, to Linked list’s value and pointer, Stacks and Queues, Trees and Graphs. Knowing the basics of data structures and algorithms can really change the way you code, and help you write codes with better time and space complexities. We also continued learning vanilla JavaScript . Mr. Ibrahim Lukman, was also able to share his knowledge on Object Oriented JavaScript,

Mr. Lanre Yusuf, check him out here: https://www.linkedin.com/in/lanre-yusuf-pmp-itil-sfpc-a4102b93/ an IT Business and project manager exposed us to “The Business Side Of Software Engineering”, where he discussed how to make money as a software developer, the key ingredients to starting out great as a good developer, which are (Patience, Sacrifice, and compromise). He also talked about how to manage people by learning the three Es of people, Element, Environment and Energy. Mr. Lanre also discussed how to bill clients, by setting the payments in milestones, and making sure the deadline stated in the contract must be met. This lesson really stuck with me and I'm sure it will help me with my growth as a software developer.

There is a bi-weekly presentation of our project so far where we present the technical and non-technical part of the project. We present our UI designs, design implementations, functionalities, successes, challenges, and backlogs. We have also been able to present our user persona and survey.

Mr Shamsudeen Aderoju and other guest speakers taught us skills like Design Thinking and Creative Thinking. We learned how to think critically using the SWAT, SMART, and PEST methods. We did a lot of enjoyable task to demonstrate how well we comprehended the lectures.

I was also fortunate to have won the Head of House once again, alongside my partner, Abayomi Alabi, this position, tests your leadership, co-ordination, and team management skills.

This month also ushered in the start of a mentorship session. I and other mentees met with Dr. Bashir Mohammed for an introductory session. He’s is an experienced AI/ML researcher with about ten years of experience in the Industry and Academia. He is empathetic, and is always willing to help his mentees.

Finally, I ended the month by creating some side projects using HTML, CSS and JavaScript. The are simple project that the ladies of Tiidelab, under the tutor of a fellow decided to work on in order to have experience working with JavaScript and also an opportunity to practice. Some of these projects include: A simple calculator, A counter, and a percentage calculator.
